BCS Teachers, Staff, Administrators,
Welcome back to the new 2016-2017 School Year!
It has been and continues to be a great experience learning about all of the educational efforts and people so highly committed to their positions with the Belen Consolidated School District. We do have some of the most talented and passionate educators in the state. Our classified, volunteer, and support staff demonstrate that same commitment in their respective roles throughout the district. Belen Consolidated School has and will continue to be a productive organization, educating some of the most outstanding, conscientious, and hard-working citizens of New Mexico.
Although we have many academic successes, we have much more to accomplish in moving our students to higher levels of proficiency. I believe that many improvement opportunities still lie in the areas of collaboration, alignment, and student learning. This year there has been significant work with focusing on Standards and looking closer at student work, which is the basic product of the organizationís efforts. This should not only continue, but improve daily. The Academic Departments are developing District Learning Plans (DLPís) to support and guide student learning with a logical sequence and appropriate grade level expectations. This tool should provide better support and direction for teachers and instructional staff. These tools help us align what we teach to what we measure in learning.
Much of this summer has been used to work with the Board of Education, Administration, and School Site Leadership to establish a road map for the school year. More of this work will be shared with everyone upon our return on August 9.
The Belen Consolidated School District has a history of success and we will accept nothing less than to further build and sustain a stronger and healthier education system. Every student, parent, and community member must be confident that Belen students will receive a quality education. The culture, the pride, and the commitment we have in our school system will ensure this. Working as a team toward common goals and aligning our work and resources to what we want to achieve will truly raise us all to higher standards and provide our students what they deserve.
I am committed to serving all teachers and staff so that we all better serve our students, and I look forward to meeting with you at the Belen High School Gym on August 9. Please remember August 9 is a contract day and you are required to be there.
If you have any questions about our upcoming Orientation Day, please call my office at 505-966-1003.
